The modality of therapy is the style and philosophy of the therapeutic discipline. In other words, it’s what your therapist says, does, and encourages you to say, do, and think. Most therapists have some process they tend to believe in and will encourage you to try it out. That aside, most therapists do what is called ‘talk therapy’. That’s therapy where for approximately an hour you and your therapist talk about what you are experiencing currently, what you are feeling, and what you might consider as helpful attitudes and behaviors. This kind of therapy can be very helpful, however, I believe it’s limited. Consider a therapist that has had enough years and experience to accumulate a broad perspective on what to choose for you and your particular ‘case’. The more experience they have, the more they can offer you alternative processes and perspectives.
