Most people do not live their true calling. As a result they have careers in which they don’t feel fully themselves. Inwardly they feel disconnected and uneasy. If you are one of those many who feel a restlessness and dissatisfaction regarding what to do and want to know what to do with the rest of your life then consider that there is something you can do about it. This is the first in a series of articles about how to know and to live your true calling.
Each of us has a reason for being. When we come into this world each of us has a natural and easy love for certain things. These “certain things” capture our attention, fascinate us, and become a source of great pleasure. Perhaps we have a fascination for numbers or for music or for nature or for animals or for building things or for helping people or for…the list goes on. Whatever it is you have an easy and natural feeling about it. You are comfortable with it and it with you.
This attraction to your own “certain things” is your first clue to your true calling. Look to your childhood loves. It is there that you will find what you need to know your true calling. There will be something about the things you loved in your childhood that will tell you what you need to know. Listen to the most basic elements of your loves. Begin there and follow where it leads you. Do not take literally the clues. Listen to the feeling of your clues. Ask yourself, “What is basic about this that I want to feel and keep in my life.” Be simple and honest. Then it will be easy to know.
