Carla discovered in multiple past lives that she had endured a series of dysfunctional, critical, and unloving families. She could see how those past life families were similar to the dysfunctional family of her current life. One of my mentors and teachers, Milton Erickson, taught me how to help my clients create the subconscious “memory” of a perfect family by using the imagination. By imagining yourself with loving parents and siblings living in a pleasant and supportive environment you can actually “tell” your subconscious mind that is a reality you are living. In the case of Carla I asked her to imagine that she was a child living in a wonderful place that she created in her mind and that she had a perfect mother and father. In her imagination Carla was loved unconditionally by both parents. Mother taught her to do things in a patient loving way while continually supporting her and encouraging her to try things on her own when she was ready. Father embraced her as his wonderful daughter and taught her many things as well. In her imagination Carla was learning to see men and women in a positive and safe light. Gradually her perspective about herself, others, and the nature of reality shifted to a more positive outlook. Carla’s conscious life began to change in kind with what she imagined.
