Hi, I’m Dr. Wendy Hill. Did you know that we human beings are an addictive species? It’s easy to get addicted. And facing and getting control of our addictions is one of our greatest learning opportunities.
Have you been in repeated rehabs? AA not your thing? Traditional therapy let you down? Do you recognize repeated patterns of addiction, denial, getting help, denial, and back to addiction?
I want you to know that there is hope for you.
Anything can be an addiction. Not just the well-known ones like alcohol, smoking, drugs, prescriptions, technology, or food but shopping, work, cleaning, hording, sex, collecting, and the list goes on.
Did you know that your addiction is a symptom? Yes, it is a problem in itself and needs to be dealt with so you can be your true self. However, the problem of the addiction will not leave you until you address the real root of the problem…the problem that your addiction is trying to solve.
You see, addiction is your mind attempting to solve a conflict you have and have had in your life for a long time. Whether it be technology, food, drugs, or whatever, you are and have been attempting to comfort yourself, perhaps even to numb yourself from that which is and has been bothering you.
And whatever that is likely began years ago in your childhood. Whatever was happening in your young life was too difficult for you to deal with at the time so you did whatever you could to survive emotionally. And part of what you did was to disconnect from your memory and emotions related to the problem. As an adult when you disconnect from yourself the pain of disconnection is often more painful than the events or conditions that originally hurt you. That disconnection has created your addiction which has run your life.
With hypnotherapy and regression coupled with psychotherapy you can go back and heal the original problem and in doing so you begin to heal the addiction. You can transform the self-defeating addiction-causing core beliefs into beliefs that support healthy adult experience…free of addiction.
Treating the symptom of an addiction alone seldom helps. Treating the underlying cause behind an addiction can alleviate the addiction. All addiction is an attempt to comfort, help, or deal with stress that most often originates in childhood. By healing those old self-defeating core beliefs that originated early in life you can attack and heal addiction.
If you would like to know more about how you can help yourself I invite you to contact me for a live Zoom session or an in-person session in my office in Encinitas, California. My very best to you, Wendy Hill, Ph.D.
Hypnotherapy Coupled With Psychotherapy Treats Root Causes of Addiction
Do you feel imprisoned by an addiction? Drugs, alcohol, food, sex, gambling, smoking, obsessive behavior? Have you been to rehab? How many times? Did you know that your addiction is based on certain deeply held self-defeating core beliefs and patterns that are in your subconscious mind? Did you know that those self-defeating core beliefs can be transformed through certain psychotherapeutic and hypnotherapeutic techniques? You do not have to be held hostage by your addiction. Hypnotherapy treats the root causes of addiction.
No Need to Repeat Rehab
Addictions are frequently linked to the past and are hidden from the conscious mind. Addiction can become a “comfort zone”, a safe place to hide. Dr. Wendy knows how powerful addictions can be. Often addicts attempt to step out of their addiction only to return to it. This is why so many addicts repeatedly return to rehab. Traditional therapy doesn’t go deep enough to make a difference. AA and other related AA meetings can be helpful but don’t really address the damaging childhood experiences that set you up for addiction. Until the root cause of the addictions are uncovered the addict will regress to their addictive behavior over and over again. Everyone wants to avoid discomfort and change. This avoidance becomes the addictive cycle. Dr. Wendy will show you how to permanently stop this cycle and conquer your addiction.
Transform Self-Defeating Addiction Patterns
Addictions can make you feel like you are trapped in self-defeating behaviors over which you have no control. Facing your addiction with Dr. Wendy empowers you to take charge of your life. You can recognize unconscious or irrational fears, feelings, or experiences that were set in childhood. Once recognized and dealt with they will have no power over you. Those old memories and experiences that hold you hostage are never as bad as you think. Why? Because its roots lie in the past, a past that is over and done and can no longer harm you.
Most of the time these memories are buried, denied, or trivialized. Avoidance is a common human behavior. It is human to want to avoid uncomfortable childhood emotions or feelings especially when we rationalize that it's all in the past and nothing can be done about it. In truth something can be done about it. Dr. Wendy gives you the safe place to face and resolve old hurtful experiences. Once you face those old memories you can deal with them.
True Client Story
Some time ago Jeff, age 39, came to my office. He said he had heard about my work through some friends and was interested in doing some individual hypnotherapy and counseling and then participate in my workshop, The Renaissance Experience. He said that he had been smoking marijuana since he was sixteen and had lost confidence that he ever could or even would want to quit. He requested that I not bring up the subject of his addiction as he didn’t want it to become an issue in his personal growth work. Secretly knowing the power of hypnotherapy I promised I would not. I kept my promise. Jeff competed his individual work and went through the workshop. He emerged a changed man. About a year and a half later I received a call from him. He said, “Dr. Wendy, I want to thank you for keeping your promise of never mentioning my addiction to marijuana. You never ever bought it up. You didn’t need to. Your counseling, hypnotherapy, and workshop made possible what I am about to tell you. About a year ago I woke up one morning and realized that I no longer needed or even wanted to get stoned. I quit smoking marijuana that day and have had no desire to smoke since. Thank you.” Without having to speak of his addiction, hypnotherapy addressed and cured it. Years later I connected again with Jeff. He was still free of addiction.
